The fume hood is one of the most important pieces of safety equipment in the laboratory. Unfortunately, most hoods don't perform as well as they should...or could. A comprehensive evaluation of fume hoods within the laboratory as well as the associated mechanical and architectural elements can often identify problems or misconceptions that negatively impact hood performance. Recommended corrective actions can significantly improve efficiency and safety.
